Jagdeep Dhankhar – NDA’s Vice President Candidate

Last Updated on July 16, 2022 by Bharat Saini

BJP-led NDA has declared Jagdeep Dhankhar as its Vice President candidate. The announcement came after the BJP chief JP Nadda hailed Dhankhar as a farmer’s son and a “people’s governor”. Since assuming office as the Governor of West Bengal in July 2019, Dhankhar has regularly challenged the Mamata Banerjee government. In this article, we’ll look at his background and potential to win the Vice President’s post.

Jagdeep Dhankar
BJP has announced that its Vice President candidate, Jagdeep Dhankar, is a farmer’s son. A lawyer by profession, he has been associated with the BJP for the past two decades. Many political observers believe that Mr Dhankhar was “rewarded” for his clash with Ms Banerjee. He was present at the meeting of the BJP’s parliamentary board in Delhi, and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his support for Mr Dhankhar. He is an expert in legislative affairs and has extensive knowledge of the Constitution.

A strong ally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Dhankar will serve as the Vice President of India and the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha. However, he may face opposition-led tussles. Opposition parties have tussled with the Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha before. Last winter, a dozen opposition MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha. M. Venkaiah Naidu had described the opposition members as “unruly.”

A Jat man from Rajasthan, Jagdeep Dhankhar is a BJP vice presidential candidate. He currently serves as governor of the state of West Bengal. A farmer by birth, Dhankhar has built a reputation as the people’s governor in West Bengal. During his time in the West Bengal government, Dhankar has fought against Mamata Banerjee and her party repeatedly. He also claims that the CM did not keep him informed of the political machinations of the West Bengal government.

Anandiben Patel
After failing miserably in Gujarat, the BJP has narrowed its options to two candidates, Anandiben Patel and Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi campaigned hard against the BJP, and the BJP restricted itself to 99 seats. Najma Azad is the granddaughter of the country’s first education minister. But she remained with the Congress for a long time, despite being a Muslim and a woman. Anandiben Patel, on the other hand, was the governor of Uttar Pradesh and is close to PM Narendra Modi.

Anandiben Patel failed to contain the upsurge among the Patel community. Nevertheless, the NDAs strategy to field the NDA’s Vice President candidate was well-thought-out. If Patel is not elected, the BJP has the right to nominate its candidate. The election for Vice President will be held on 6 August. The results will be announced the same day. Nominations close on July 19.

Nominations for the 16th Vice-President of India have begun, but the BJP may surprise us with a surprise candidate. The Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, has said that opposition parties will hold a meeting on July 17 to decide who will contest the election. The NDA’s nomination list features a diverse group of candidates. Some NDA candidates have been nominated for vice president, but there’s no guarantee.

M Venkaiah Naidu
As the term of M Venkaiah Naidu ends on 10th August, speculations have begun on who the NDA will nominate for the position of Vice President. The Electoral College elects the VP by secret ballot. The VP is elected with one transferable vote, and members of political parties cannot issue whips. The Electoral College is currently 790 members strong. The NDA, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is heavily loaded in the Electoral College.

M Venkaiah Naidu has been the Information Minister of Andhra Pradesh since 2006. The BJP has selected him for the post of Vice President following a meeting of its parliamentary board chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His portfolios are information and housing. M Venkaiah will now file his nomination papers tomorrow at 11am.

The ruling coalition is ahead in the electoral college, with the BJP having more than 48 per cent of the vote share. Naidu had been in Hyderabad on Monday, but returned to Delhi on Tuesday. The decision by the BJP is a resounding success for the government. But it may come at a cost to Naidu’s political career. In addition to his current role as the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Naidu has served in the I&B ministry.
