Fear of future machines surpassing the intelligence of humans and taking over the world could be real! As new technology brings in a new set of challenges and creating artificial intelligence -driven technology products is almost like replicating human intelligence. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already real. There are statistical machines that automate and increasingly can outperform humans at certain pattern-recognition tasks and conscious machines, omnipotent machines or even reasoning machines will do much more. Irony is that they perform what is programmed and cannot make the judgement of right or wrong. They cannot take decisions if they encounter a situation unfamiliar to them. There could be situations where they either perform incorrectly or breakdown. But there is great positive potential for the Artificial Intelligence and the dark side of technology should not be used to decree closure of all AI or genetics research. We need to create a balance between human needs and technological aspirations.
Artificial Intelligence is the intelligence exhibited by machines. AI is designing machines that have the ability to think. In computer science, an ideal intelligent machine is a flexible rational agent that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at an arbitrary goal. AI is currently at the cutting-edge science and technology. Researchers of AI want to bring in the emotional quotient to the machines along with the general intelligence.
AI has been used in a wide range of fields including robot control, remote sensing, law, stock trading, medical diagnosis and scientific discovery and toys. It continues to develop in numerous fields such as Computer Science, Medical Care, Heavy Industry, Aviation, Transportation, Telecommunications, Print & Electronic Media, Marketing, Finance and Music etc.
The very idea to create an artificial intelligence is to make the lives of humans easier. All future AI systems must be made robust, so that they do what we want without malfunctioning or getting hacked. The research should focus to grow our prosperity through automation while maintaining people’s resources and purpose. Legal systems should be made to be more fair and efficient, to keep pace with AI, and to manage the risks associated with AI. AI should be aligned with a set of values and high ethical status and should have a just legal system as well. Given the pace at which AI systems are developing, there is an urgent need to put in some checks and balances so that things do not go out of hand. It must be ensured that AI remains beneficial and not harmful to the future of humankind.
The ethical AI framework should be such that the human and all living beings must remain at centre of all AI discussions. People must be informed at every level right from the design stage to development of the AI-driven products for everyday use.
