UPSC Civil Services Main Examination – Prepare for the Best

Preparations for UPSC Civil Services examination are critical and need proper dedication of aspirants. It is a dream career for many students around the country. This examination has an incomparable power of excellence associated with it, that’s why preparations itself have high standards.

  • Know the Papers

Get familiar with the pattern of the examination, this helps to strategize preparations. UPSC Civil Services Examination is conducted each year in three stages. The Mains Examination has the written examinations of 9 papers that are subjective or the conventional essay types.

Qualifying Papers (Non-Ranking):

Marks not counted in the Merit but Passing is mandatory.

Paper A: Indian Language: One of the Indian Languages included in the 8th Schedule to the Constitution is to be selected by the candidate. – 300 Marks

Paper B: English – 300 Marks

Merit Papers (Ranking):

Paper I: Essay – 250 Marks

Paper II: General Studies I (Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society) – 250 Marks

Paper III: General Studies II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations) – 250 Marks

Paper IV: General Studies III (Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management) – 250 Marks

Paper V: General Studies IV (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude) – 250 Marks

Paper VI: Optional Subject- Paper 1 – 250 Marks

Paper VII: Optional Subject- Paper 2 – 250 Marks

  • Interview/Personality Test – 275 Marks

Further, the process comprises of a personal interview, the personality test. After clearing the Mains written examination the candidate is supposed to face the Interview or the personality test by a Board. Thereafter, final merit list based on the marks obtained in the mains and the interview is prepared of the finally selected candidates.

  • Preparations and practice

There are many books and magazines available in the market to serve each and every need of competitive exam’s preparations.

Students should stay in conversation with the experts and fellow students preparing for the exams. It helps clear doubts and leads to healthy and informative discussions.

Going through the previous years’ papers gives a good idea about the pattern of the questions in the examinations.  Questions although are not repeated but pattern remains the same. Find your weak subjects or topics and start managing the time to give different subjects enough attention. Study the competitive exam magazines as they are very helpful.

Aspirants should to strategize their preparations better, should have a proper conceptual clarity and understanding of the subjects.
