NEET 2019 Paper Pattern and other Related Details

NEET (UG)-2019 will be conducted in the offline mode by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NEET 2019 exam date is May 5, 2019. It will be conducted in a single session from 02:00 p.m. to 05:00 p.m. NEET 2019 admit card will be available to download from April 15, 2019, onwards.

NTA will be conducting the examination for the first time after being handed over the responsibility from CBSE. The scores of the exam will be applicable for admission to recognised MBBS/BDS programs in India.

The Pattern of NEET (UG) 2019

NTA has assured that there will not be any changes in the syllabus, exam pattern, and choice of language in NEET 2019. Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology) syllabus of class 11th and 12th levels of the NCERT curriculum will be covered in the exam. All the three subjects are covered in a single question paper that needs to be attempted in the same offline exam schedule.

In the paper-based, multiple choice-type question paper, candidates have to attempt 180 questions in 3 hours for a total score of 720 marks. Since the examination is for admission into medical programs, hence, the percentage of questions from Biology is more than the rest of the subjects.

Highlights of NEET 2019 Exam Pattern

Each question in the exam carries four marks. For each correct answer, the candidate will granted four marks while each incorrect answer will deduct a negative marking of 1 mark. No marks will be awarded for questions that are left unanswered.

Please note that changing answers is not allowed and multiple options marked for a single question will attract negative marking.

Answers have to be written on a specially designed machine-gradable sheet (OMR Sheet) using Ball Point Pen. Both the sheet and pen will be provided at the examination centre.

At the time of NEET 2019 application, candidates have to opt for their choice of Language/Medium of the question paper. Candidates who have chosen English as their medium of examination will be handed a test booklet in English only. On the other hand, those who have chosen a regional language will be getting a bilingual test booklet containing the questions in English and the language of their choice.

Candidates were cautioned while exercising their choice of language/medium option of the NEET question paper while filling in the application form as the option once exercised by candidates is unchangeable.

Candidates should bear in mind that allotment of the medium of language will be state-specific. As such, someone who has opted for Odia as the choice of the test medium, will not be allowed to appear the test in Mumbai and instead will be allotted an exam centre in Odisha only.

Earlier multiple sets of NEET question papers were released and thus the chances that each set will have a varying difficulty level remained. However, in 2019 onwards, there will be one set of question paper, and it will be translated into 11 languages. In case of any confusion regarding the translation of any of the questions, its English version shall be treated as final.
