Aristotle said “Man is by nature a social animal”. Society is something that precedes the individual. It is through the environment and support of society that he grows in maturity and ability and contributes in a meaningful and constructive manner to the betterment of society. In order to become and emerge as a disciplined and educated member of society he needs to toil hard and reach the goal of self-realization. Thus focusing on self-improvement is the first need of ours as individuals, so that we can perform our duties as social beings in a responsible manner towards our family, friends, relatives and above all our motherland. Self-confidence should ultimately be the starting point for anybody to follow his/her dream. One has to believe in oneself to achieve anything great in life. Self-belief is the cornerstone of lasting success in life.
In 1960, it was a technological impossible for the man to travel into outer space. However, within 10 years, the first man reached the moon. But the collective self-confidence of scientific community to do whatever was necessary to see to it that a man walks on the moon by the end of that decade converted a dream into reality. The unique combination of desire, planning, effort and perseverance always work its magic. The question is not whether the formula for success will work, but rather whether the person will work the formula. That is the challenge that confronts us all. We can all go from wherever we are to wherever we want to be. No dream is impossible provided we first have the courage to believe in it.
It is now propounded that 20% of your energy should be devoted to your work 80% of your energy should be devoted to rest and self-improvement. This is what fuels your work and makes it better than anyone else’s. The most important thing in the task of self-improvement is to continuously improve you, expand your vision, skills and abilities.
Abraham Lincoln aptly remarked that “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” So within a short period of time, you need to develop true mastery over your work. Everyone else is trying to hone their “craft.” Don’t work on your job. Work on yourself. When you do, your work will far exceed what other people are painstakingly producing. Your work will be cleaner, clearer, and more powerful because you’ll be more evolved as a person. Most people you’re “competing” against are an inner mess.
Always keep in your minds the following self-improvement goals:-

- Believe in yourself.
- Ask for wisdom.
- Conserve your time.
- Invest your profits.
- Live with intensity
- Find your place.
- Demand integrity from yourself.
- Welcome the disciplines.
- Fight for what’s right.
- Admit your mistakes.
Finally your results are not a reflection of your talent. Lots of people have talent. Few people, however, are required to rise to a difficult challenge. You need to be taking on challenges that require you to become so much more than you currently are. You need to put your back against the wall so that you have no other choice but to produce. This is how you purge out your weakness and small-mindedness.
