The announcement of date for entrance to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) put an end to the speculation over Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) 2017. In the last meeting of Joint Admission Board (JAB) held at IIT Madras it has been decided that JEE Advanced 2017 will be held on May 21, 2017.
In 2012, the government run Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) that earlier conducted by the AIEE, announced this examination that replaced the AIEE and IIT-JEE. JEE consists of two parts, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE-Advanced is for admission to Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), while JEE-Main exam is for admission to National Institute of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute for Information Technology (IIITs), Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTIs). Only the students selected in JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE-Advanced.
As per the recent circular of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) the JEE Main will be held on April 02, 2017 and its result shall be declared by May 17, 2017. The important informations about the JEE Advanced are mentioned hereunder:
- IIT Madras will conduct JEE Advanced 2017.
- There will be 2 papers in JEE Advanced with duration of 3 hours for each paper. The appearing candidates have to attempt both the papers compulsorily.
- There will be 3 sections in both the papers as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- The question paper will have MCQ type questions and numerical type questions as well.
- Negative marks will be awarded for incorrect answers to some questions.
- The question paper will be in either English or Hindi. Candidates must exercise the choice of question paper language while registering for JEE Advanced. Change of question paper language will not be entertained after the registration.
- The JEE Advanced authority will provide the facility of ORS and answer key. The ORS of qualified candidates will be available along with machine-read responses. The answer key will be released very soon after the examination for both the papers.

- A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in consecutive years. Therefore, candidates who appeared in JEE (Advanced) 2015 for the first time are also eligible.
- The cut-off for the aggregate marks in Class 12 for SC and ST candidates will be reduced from 70 per cent to 65 per cent.
- As per the new guideline from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, OBC-NCL certificates issued after April 1, 2017 will be considered valid for JEE Advanced 2017.
- JEE Advanced has opened opportunities for candidates from foreign countries who can get admission in various IITs after qualifying the exam.
- For 2017, 20,000 more candidates will be eligible to write the JEE Advanced after clearing JEE (Main), thus taking the total up to 220000. This is in line with the projected number of seats available across all IITs in 2017.
- JAB has decided that various interactive features would be developed to make the process of registration, fee payment, result announcement, choice filling etc. “less strenuous and hassle free”, the faculty shared. Features like short video tutorial and SMS services will be used extensively to help the candidates.
