Pride Month is celebrated every June. You will likely notice it right away since most social media profiles will make sure that everyone knows that it is that time of year. It also coincides with the summer season, meaning that there are plenty of plans you can consider if you want to make the most of your Pride experience. If you’re not sure how to start planning, we have collected some exciting ideas you can consider to create unforgettable memories during Pride.
Attend the Best Pride Parades Across the Globe
Pride parades are always the number one plan when it comes to celebrating LGBTQ+ diversity during June. Hence, if possible, you wouldn’t want to miss out on this experience. It would be even better if you could attend the events along with your friends. Most countries hold Pride parades every year, and some of the biggest include San Fransisco and New York pride in the USA. In South America, one of the biggest pride celebrations is held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which can be something to look forward to if you’re also planning a trip abroad.
Sign Up for a Bar Crawl
Even if you’re not planning on leaving your city, you can still sign up for a gay bar crawl and have fun during pride either on your own or with your friends – you will meet all sorts of people during the event anyway. You will have nice drinks and will also visit some of the best pubs in the city, allowing you to learn more about LGBTQ+ culture and maybe even make a few friends along the way. Bar crawls are best experienced in groups, though. Be sure to invite a couple of friends to make the most of it.
Host an Event
Unfortunately, not all communities have Pride-themed celebrations. That doesn’t prevent you from having the initiative and hosting an event. You can organize a mini-parade along with people in your community or maybe a party to celebrate pride. It doesn’t have to do anything too big or intricate. If it’s pride-themed and events like these are rare to see in your area, people will appreciate it, and you might even be able to see similar experiences next year (or even a few days later). Hosting an event during Pride Month can be an excellent way to make people feel welcome and validated.
Go to a Drag Queen Story Hour
Drag queen story hours have become quite popular lately despite the controversies. If you’re from the US, those are quite common in certain places, such as New York City. We recommend you do some research and find out if there are any drag queens hosting events like these within your area. Or, even better: if you know someone who is a drag queen, you can encourage them to start a drag queen story hour so that people within the community can feel more familiar with LGBTQ+ culture and have a good time together.
Remember to Wear Rainbow Colors
Pride is all about diversity and living your truth. Even if you’re not LGBTQ+, you can still show your support to the community or your friends by hanging a pride flag in your home or perhaps using a rainbow shirt during a parade, letting people know that you are an ally. If you’re LGBTQ+, it is also recommended to wear attire that symbolizes your identity and allows you to express yourself in your own way. It is also perfectly fine if you don’t want to take part in this part of Pride Month – after all, there’s no right way to celebrate!
Conclusion
Pride Month will start very soon, and if you want to make the most of it, it would be best if you started collecting ideas for what you could do during the month, either with your friends or by yourself. There are tons of activities that you can do during Pride, even if your city doesn’t hold events or if you don’t know any other queer people (or allies). You can always show your support towards the community on social media and be sure to make everyone feel welcome not only during Pride Month but all the time.
