‘GalMobile’ Water Desalination Technology Can Solve India’s Water Crisis

Last Updated on January 17, 2018 by Bharat Saini

Mobile Water Desalination Technology known as ‘GalMobile’, the ‘Buggy Jeep’, the first of its kind in the World, is a sea water purification machine, which will be a special gift that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presents to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his visit to India on January 14, 2018. Netanyahu had showed off a demonstration on the Olga Beach in Dor of this amazing technology to Modi while they waded into the Mediterranean Sea and rode the Buggy Jeep on the coast during the latter’s visit to Israel on July 6, 2017. Gal-Mobile is an independent, integrated water purification vehicle, designed to produce high-quality drinking water. It can be useful in natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, military use in difficult terrain and rural areas to provide drinkable water. The machine delivers “Potable drinking water- from any source, anytime, anywhere”, and can solve India’s water crisis.

Buggy Jeep:

  • Is mobile, self-contained, independent and automatic.
  • Can be connected to any possible water source that include rivers, lakes, oceans, brackish water, wells, and highly turbid water source.
  • Costs around 390,000 shekels equivalent to app. $111,000.
  • Weighs just 1540 Kgs., is quite lightweight.
  • It has small dimensions, which makes it easy to store, carry and ship.
  • Speed of the jeep is 90 kilometres per hour.
  • Is an Independent energy source.
  • Runs on a mere 12V low voltage system.
  • Can purify up to 20,000 litres per day of sea water and 80,000 litres per day of brackish/muddy or contaminated river water and bring it to WHO standards.
  • Contains an integrated water storage tank with a capacity of 265 Gallons to 2650 Gallons.
  • Can control and analyse stable supply of drinking water.
  • Can resist to all weather conditions.
  • Features an advanced control system, which reduces the need for operator attendance and works on ‘Plug and Play’ configuration.
  • In order to deploy the GalMobile, one needs less than 30 minutes, by just 2 people.

India faces quite a bad water situation, as a large part of the population does not have access to proper drinking water. Most of the Indian water bodies get polluted with organic and hazardous pollutants. There are interstate disputes over river waters.

As major parts of India face water shortages every year, especially during the summers, country is looking to Israel for cooperation in water management and recycling, as Israel is renowned for its expertise in these areas and this technology is a source of envy for many world nations. Despite not having any groundwater and with a low average annual precipitation, Israel not only meets its huge water consumption target but it also exports it to other countries.

Israel’s GalMobile like technology can be a huge help to India, especially since the country has a large part of its borders, linked to seas and oceans and there is a dire need to find ways to provide clean drinking water. Groundwater is not considered a sustainable source, as it may end one day due to over extraction. This can improve our wastewater treatment as well as desalination.
