Have you completed your graduation and are interested in pursuing an MBA from a renowned B-school, but you are not sure how to apply? Earlier, B-school admissions were granted only based on merit. Due to an increase in the number of applicants, most B-schools have revised their MBA admission criteria and now they accept admission based on the MBA entrance examination.

Tests accepted for MBA in India

The basic requirement of B-schools in India is generally a good percentile in CAT, GMAT, or other common entrance examinations. Overall 6 nationalized tests are approved by AICTE comprising CAT, GMAT, MAT, ATMA, NMAT, XAT, and CMAT. While CAT, MAT, XAT, etc. are accepted by only the related institutions and limited B-schools, GMAT is accepted by a larger range of B-schools. By taking the GMAT examination, a candidate has the advantage of applying to business schools across the world.

All about Common Admission Test (CAT)

Common Admission Test or CAT is a National level MBA entrance examination that is conducted once every year by the IIMs on a rotational basis. It is one of the most prestigious common entrance tests and many students want to appear for this test. However, scoring 95 percentile can be really tough. Even after a lot of preparation, it becomes difficult to score 95 percentile. Thus, many other common examination tests are there which are accepted by many institutes. To get enrolled into IMT Nagpur, you can score just 75 percentile. As per the examination pattern, the examination duration is 2 hours in which candidates will have to answer three sections comprising verbal ability and reading comprehension (VARC), data interpretation and logical reasoning (DILR), and quantitative aptitude (QA). As IIMs do not provide any official syllabus, the candidates can make their preparation strategy by going through the previous years’ examinations.

All about Common Management Admission Test (CMAT)

Common Management Admission Test or CMAT is another national-level MBA entrance examination. According to the CMAT examination pattern, the question paper will have four sections which are to be answered within three hours. The candidates who are planning to appear in the CMAT entrance examination can prepare with the help of previous years’ papers. To enroll in IMT Nagpur, you need to score 90 percentile in CMAT.

All about Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT)

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is conducted by the Xavier School of Management every year. This entrance examination is conducted in a computer-based mode. As per the examination pattern of XAT, the paper will have a total of around four sections that are to be solved in three hours keeping in mind the negative marking scheme. To get admission to IMT Nagpur through XAT, you need to score 75 percentile.

Final Words

These are some of the most common entrance examinations. It is not important to score well in CAT only. You can also score well in other entrance examinations and get admission to one of the best institutes around the country. IMT Nagpur accepts the score of CAT, CMAT, and XAT. You can apply in any one of the examinations or all, you secure your admission. Once you are eligible to enroll in the college, the admission process becomes very easy.
